The Congress on Monday attacked the Prime Minister over the remarks of RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat expressing concern over the lack of peace in Manipur. Narendra Modi But he took a dig at Bhagwat and said that perhaps only Bhagwat can inspire the ‘former RSS official’ to visit Manipur.

Violence broke out between the Meitei and Kuki communities in Manipur in May last year. Since then, nearly 200 people have been killed, while thousands have been displaced following large-scale arson. Houses and government buildings have been burnt to ashes in this arson. Fresh violence has been reported from Jiribam in the last few days.

Jairam Ramesh said this

Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh posted on ‘X’ and said: “Perhaps Bhagwat may inspire the former RSS functionary to visit Manipur.”

Union driver expressed concern

Bhagwat on Monday expressed concern over the lack of peace in Manipur even after a year and said the situation in the conflict-hit northeastern state should be considered on priority.

Addressing a gathering of RSS trainees at the concluding programme of the organisation’s ‘Karyakarta Vikas Varg-II’ at Dr Hedgewar Smriti Bhavan premises at Reshambag in Nagpur, Bhagwat said conflict in different places and society is not good.

Bhagwat said, “Manipur has been waiting for peace to be established for the last one year. Ten years ago there was peace in Manipur. It seemed that the gun culture had ended there, but suddenly violence has increased in the state.” He said, “The situation in Manipur has to be considered on priority. There is a need to rise above election rhetoric and focus on the problems facing the nation.”

Ramesh claims, PM ignored Maharashtra ministers

In another post, Ramesh claimed that Prime Minister Modi has ignored his allies from Maharashtra in the selection of his Council of Ministers and has started “revenge politics” even before the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) loses the upcoming assembly elections in the state.

He said Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader Praful Patel rejected the offer of “one-third Prime Minister”, saying the offer to become a minister of state was a demotion for him.
