If you want to see the picture of sleeping education system, then look at Government Girls Higher Secondary School, Kunwarpatti. In eleven years only 12 girl students could be enrolled here. Whereas there are six teachers including the Principal in the school. If some emphasis was put in this session, the number of children has reached 60.

To promote girls’ education, in the year 2008, approval was given to establish Government Girls Higher Secondary School at Kunwarpatti, Meja. Four years were spent in budget, land and paperwork process. The school was completed in the year 2012. Studies for classes 9th and 10th started from this session. But this was a mere formality.

No efforts were made to bring girls to school. At the same time, 547 children study in neighboring JLN Inter College, Jewaniya and about 700 children study in Shuklapur Inter College, Shuklapur. These include both male and female students.

It also sets an example of inequality in the school system. On one hand, there is a shortage of teachers in hundreds of schools in the state. Till last session there were more teachers than children. The government spends about Rs 4.5 lakh on the salaries of these teachers. But till date no one from the education department has gone to ask them what they do.
