How dangerous is the FLiRT variant
The US Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) report states that some mutations have been found in the spike protein of the new variant of Corona, which may also increase its infectiousness. Experts have expressed apprehension that it may be more infectious than Omicron’s variant JN.1.
Dr. Scott Roberts, an infectious disease specialist at Yale Medicine, says that KP.1 and KP.2 have been named FLiRT based on their mutations. They are easily dodging the immune system. A report by John Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health shows that its infectiousness is high but the risk of serious diseases due to this is likely to be quite low.
