Omicron Sub Variant In India: The presence of all variants of Omicron has been detected in India. Sentinel sequencing of 324 Covid positive samples revealed presence of all sub-variants of Omicron in the country. However, no mortality or increase in cases was reported in areas where these variants were found. From December 29, 2022, to January 7, 2023, the Integrated Disease Surveillance Program (IDSP) sentinel sites sent 324 Covid-positive samples to 22 Indian SARS-CoV-2 Genomics Consortium (INSACOG) laboratories for sequencing.
Sentinel sequencing of these positive samples revealed the presence of all omicron variants such as BA.2, BA.2.75, XBB (37), BQ.1 and BQ.1.1 (5). The death rate has not increased where these variants are found. Also the transmission has not happened.

Random corona test of international passengers arriving at various airports of the country has been started from December 24, 2022. Since then, 13,57,243 international passengers arrived in India on 7786 flights at various airports, out of which 29,113 randomly selected passengers were tested through RT-PCR.
Revealed by genome sequencing
A total of 183 samples tested positive, which were subsequently sent for whole genome sequencing to 13 INSACOG laboratories. By sequencing about 50 samples omicron And its sub-variants were detected. XBB (11), BQ.1.1 (12) and BF7.4.1 (1) were the main variants detected in these samples from international travelers.
