Courses in AMU: Aligarh Muslim University, formerly known as Muhammadan Anglo-Oriental College. It is a central university established in 1920, recognized as an institution of national importance by the Government of India. According to the MDRA Best Universities Survey 2022, Aligarh Muslim University came at the fourth position. AMU was also ranked first in the country for providing the maximum number of PG courses.

There are over 300 courses available
There are more than 300 courses available at AMU in both classical and contemporary fields of study. Apart from offering standard courses like BA and B.Sc., the institute is also known for its MBBS and B.Tech programmes. For admission to most of the courses, AMU conducts its own entrance examination (AMUEE). To get admission into AMU medical programmes, applicants have to appear for the NEET entrance exam. Through its Center for Distance and Online Education, AMU also offers distance education.

Aligarh Muslim University also offers 12 Honors courses along with vocational courses in graduation, which include Sanskrit, Russian, Linguistics, Education, Philosophy, Geography, Statistics, Community Science, Hindi, Women Education, Persian, Sanskrit etc. In addition, several institutes of the university such as Zakir Hussain College of Engineering and Technology and Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College provide high quality technical and health education.

University has started 31 online courses
AMU has started 31 new online courses from session 2024-25. These courses have been designed keeping in mind the needs of students across the country. Out of these 31 courses, 28 courses are for a duration of 12 weeks, while the remaining three courses are for short term, which are for a duration of only eight weeks. These include Business Tourism, Data Science using Python, Database Management System, Geology Fundamentals, Environment Studies, Hindi Language Comprehension, International Relations and Studies in Theater etc.

The number of foreign students is increasing
AMU is an international university, which particularly attracts students from Africa, West Asia and South East Asia. Seats have been reserved in some courses for foreign students in the university. Currently there are approximately 39,367 students, including many foreign students.

Although the exact numbers vary from time to time, it is clear that AMU remains a major educational destination for students from different countries. Here, 530 seats are available in the Faculty of Arts, 741 in the Faculty of Social Sciences, 280 in the Faculty of Commerce and 885 in the Faculty of Science in the institute for graduation level studies. Similarly, at PG level, 390 seats are available in Science Faculty, 64 in Commerce Faculty, 365 in Social Science Faculty and 281 seats are available in Arts Faculty.
