Kathuria’s lawyer argued that he had nothing to do with the incident and could not be blamed for it. Kathuria is accused of driving his SUV out of a road filled with rainwater. This caused the water to rise and the gates of the three-storey building broke and the basement was flooded.

Additional Public Prosecutor Atul Shrivastava opposed Kathuria’s bail, arguing that he had aggravated the incident. Meanwhile, advocate Amit Chaddha appeared for the basement owners and argued that civic agencies were responsible for the incident and it was an act of God. The court, after considering the arguments, refused to grant bail to all the five.

Report sought from police and MCD, hearing to be held on August 2

During the hearing of the case, the High Court questioned the Delhi Police on arresting SUV driver Kathuria and called the investigation strange. Acting Chief Justice Manmohan questioned the police that the SUV driver was caught, but have you questioned the person who did not do the work of removing silt? The High Court has sought a report from the Delhi Police and the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) in the case and said that it will hear the case on August 2.
