The new variant was first identified in Germany in June and since then, the XEC variant has appeared in the UK, US, Denmark and many other countries.

According to a report by The Independent, so far the XEC variant of Covid has been found in 500 samples from 27 countries including Poland, Norway, Luxembourg, Ukraine, Portugal and China. Experts say that the new variant is spreading rapidly especially in Denmark, Germany, the UK and the Netherlands.

In such a situation, experts say that this new variant, which is a sub-variant of Omicron, has some new changes. Which can help in its spread in this cold season, however, the vaccine can still help prevent serious cases. At present, this new variant has not been confirmed in India.

How effective will the vaccine be?

Professor Francois Balloux, director of the Genetics Institute at University College London, told the BBC that the new Covid variant XEC has a “slight infection advantage” compared to other Covid variants that have emerged recently. Still, the patient can be saved from serious illness with the vaccine available in the market. XEC may become the dominant variant of Corona in winter.

Apart from fever and cold, symptoms of this new variant of corona can include symptoms like severe body pain, fatigue, cough and sore throat. In such a situation, symptoms like difficulty in breathing, headache, loss of taste and smell, vomiting and diarrhea can also be seen.
