The Union Health Ministry said, “‘Sentinel sequencing’ of 324 Covid-positive samples taken between 29 December 2022 and 7 January 2023 revealed the presence of the omicron variant in all of them. Variant 2.75, XBB (37), BQ1 and BQ1.1 (5) and other variants are included.

Positivity rate is under control

However, the rate of infection of the epidemic is still under control. In a statement, the health ministry said, “In areas where these variants have been detected, no increase in mortality or infection cases has been reported.” These samples were taken from international passengers. The statement said that XBB (11), BQ1.1 (12) and BF7.4.1 (1) variants were found in positive samples of 50 international passengers. Genome sequencing of the sample was done.

The statement said that between December 29 and January 7, 324 positive samples were sent to 22 Insacog laboratories for genome sequencing, including: omicron The presence of BA.2 and its sub-variants 2.75, XBB (37), BQ1 and BQ1.1 (5) was found in all samples.

Since then, 13,57,243 international passengers arrived in India on 7,786 flights at various airports, out of which 29,113 randomly selected passengers were tested through RT-PCR.
