csk demands bcci to consider ms dhoni uncapped player ahead ipl 2025 mega auction bcci ipl owners meeting

MS Dhoni Uncapped Player IPL 2025 Mega Auction: Recently, IPL 2025 has been a topic of discussion and the debate on the mega auction has started. Meanwhile, the management of Chennai Super Kings (CSK) has urged the BCCI to consider MS Dhoni as an uncapped player before the mega auction. A media report has revealed that CSK wants to re-implement an old rule. Under this rule, if a player has retired for five years or more, he will be considered an uncapped player.

Let us remind you that the Indian Premier League committee had banned this rule before the 2022 auction. It is worth noting that Dhoni played a match for India at the international level in the year 2019, while on 15 August 2020 he said goodbye to international cricket. During the meeting held in Mumbai on 31 July, CSK raised the issue of declaring Dhoni as an uncapped player, but the owners of many teams including SRH owner Kavya Maran are against this decision. They believe that this will tarnish the legacy of other great players including Dhoni.

Kavya Maran expressed protest

Sunrisers Hyderabad owner Kavya Maran said in a recent meeting that if a retired player is brought to auction by giving him the tag of uncapped, then it would be playing with his greatness. According to Kavya, if an uncapped player comes to the auction and takes more money than the retained uncapped player, then it would be an insult to legends like Dhoni. She clearly said that Dhoni should enter the auction, so that he can get the right price in the auction.

Can Dhoni’s salary be reduced?

One issue that was raised in the meeting between BCCI and IPL team owners was that the base price of players who have retired for five years or more should be low. According to reports, this suggestion was given by IPL’s Chief Operating Officer Hemang Amin. He believed that if the base price of these players is low, then the chances of buying them in the auction will increase.
