Today i.e. 23rd March is the death anniversary of Shaheed Bhagat Singh. It would not be wrong to say that in today’s age children are limited to books and phones. At that age, Bhagat Singh had dreamed of the country’s independence and was martyred for it. Today, on the death anniversary of Shaheed Bhagat Singh, let us know some things related to his life.

Born in a patriotic family

Bhagat Singh was born on 28 September 1907 in a Sikh family of Banga village of Lyallpur, Punjab (now in Pakistan). However, according to one belief, his date of birth is considered to be 27th September. His father’s name was Sardar Kishan Singh and mother’s name was Vidyavati Kaur. Father Kishan Singh disliked the British and their education. His uncle himself was a revolutionary. Bhagat Singh’s early education was in the village school in Banga. After this he was admitted to Dayanand Anglo-Vedic School, Lahore.

Patriotism

The thoughts of freedom and patriotism in Bhagat Singh’s mind first came from his mother. In his childhood, questions arose in his mind regarding the conversation between his father and uncle. In such a situation, his mother used to answer all his questions. Mother’s teachings and love for her were visible throughout Bhagat Singh’s lifetime.

Let us tell you that Bhagat Singh respected Lala Lalpat Rai very much. Lalaji also used to show great affection to Bhagat Singh. In a way, Lalaji was like a family member of Bhagat Singh. The impact of Lalaji’s Arya Samaji thinking was also visible on Bhagat Singh. He got information about Gadar movement by coming in contact with uncle Ajit Singh. Gandhi’s ideas were spreading across the country long before the non-cooperation movement. But the Jallianwala Bagh massacre had a great impact on Bhagat Singh. This is the reason why all paths of non-violence were gone from his life.

Revolutionary

History tells that after Gandhiji withdrew his non-cooperation movement, Bhagat Singh adopted the path of revolutionaries and took membership of Sachindranath Sanyal and Ram Prasad Bismil’s Hindustan Republican Association (HRA). Although it did not have any specific ideology, rather there was an intense yearning to achieve independence from the British.

Russian revolution

Apart from this, the Bolshevik Revolution in Russia in 1924 had attracted many revolutionaries of the country. He felt that this was an effective way to achieve revolution. Therefore, many people including Bhagat Singh gathered in Delhi and changed the name of their organization from HRA to Hindustan Socialist Republican Association (HSRA) in 1928. However, after the Kakori train action, there was a need to change the name of the organization.

fond of books

Let us tell you that whenever Bhagat Singh got time, he used to read books. Bhagat Singh had read a lot about the October Revolution and Lenin and was also influenced by it. On many occasions he criticized nationalism, anarchy, non-violence, terrorism, religion, religiosity and communalism. According to history, he had come to the conclusion from his studies that rationality and independent thinking are very important for a revolutionary. For this reason he did not want to accept the existence of God and advocated the struggle against ignorance. Although he used to read Gayatri Mantra as an Arya Samaji in his childhood, but later he became an idealist revolutionary and then a Marxist, freeing himself from the bondage of ideology.

martyrdom day

Today i.e. 23rd March is the death anniversary of Bhagat Singh. Let us tell you that on the evening of 23 March 1931, Sardar Bhagat Singh, Sukhdev and Rajguru were hanged in Lahore jail. Although Bhagat Singh and his comrades were to be hanged on 24 March, they were hanged 11 hours before the scheduled time. The British were afraid that the public might revolt, so they hanged Bhagat Singh on 23 March. The last rites of the three martyrs were initially to be held in the jail itself, but later the British felt that the public should not get agitated after seeing the smoke rising from the jail, so overnight the back wall of the jail was broken and the mortal remains of the three were taken through a truck. He was taken out and cremated.
