India is a country of youth. More than 60 percent of the population here is young. But, now in this country, a youth is giving up his life every 40 minutes. These figures have been released by the Student Suicide – An Epidemic Sweeping India Report. In fact, more than 35 students are committing suicide every day in the country. From 2018 to 2022, 59,153 students committed suicide in the country.
On what basis was the report released
Student Suicide – An Epidemic Sweeping India Report was shared in the annual conference of IC3. Data from the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) has been used to prepare this report. Let us tell you, IC3 is a non-profit organization that works in the field of education all over the world.
The suicide rate of students is high
According to this report, while the suicide rate in India is increasing at the rate of 2 percent every year, the suicide rate among students is increasing at the rate of 4 percent every year. That is, among all the cases of suicide that come in the country every year, the number of students is the highest. Talking about the figures, in the year 2021, 13,089 students committed suicide. Whereas, in the year 2022, 13,044 students committed suicide. At the same time, from 2018 to 2020, a total of 33,020 students committed suicide.
What is the biggest reason
Although there are different reasons for student suicide in different cases, but in most cases there is only one reason. This reason is mental health. A UNICEF report says that in India, one in every seven people between 15 and 24 years of age is struggling with the problem of poor mental health.
The biggest thing is that people do not take their mental health problems seriously. Out of all the people who participated in this UNICEF survey, only 41 percent people went to a counselor to solve their mental problems. That means 59 percent people left this problem as it was.
