Flashback Friday: Climax scene of ‘Love Aaj Kal’ (2009 film, not 2020 film) – Saif’s character is seen speaking a lover’s dialogue to get Deepika’s character painting on the wall, in response to which the actress says ‘few seconds…few seconds’. Just a few seconds of dialogue – ‘The angle is new, I think it should be discussed further, so I will come down.’
The special thing in this dialogue of a few seconds is that a glimpse of the future superstar was visible in it. Why? Because in this short dialogue, Deepika had used 2 rasas (decoration rasa and karuna rasa) and 3 attitudes (sorrow, optimism and relief) out of 9 rasas and 42 attitudes of acting. This scene was creating the story of ‘Ram ki Leela’, Bajirao’s Mastani and Cocktail’s Veronica. That means today’s ‘fighter’ Deepika Padukone. It is not easy to be Deepika.
His entry in Bollywood was with 2007’s ‘Om Shanti Om’. Accordingly, he has been in Bollywood for a total of 17 years. But their stories are not old enough to be used as stories in Flashback Friday. But still we have to talk about them today. We have to talk because we have to. It should be done because it is ‘Leela’. She is the only and unique actress of her kind.
Why talk about Deepika?
If we understand films like a common viewer, then these are those in which some moving characters appear on the screen and take a story forward and take them to a different world for a few hours. But, if we consider films like a lover, then it is really a thick book of Chemistry or Physics for any B.Sc or B.Tech student. In which not thousands but lakhs of things are hidden. And only a few people are able to understand those complex and difficult things and portray them in films on the basis of their acting. There are many faces among such actors like Tabu, Meryl Streep, Al Pacino, Denzel Washington, Naseeruddin Shah, Amitabh, Manoj Bajpayee and Shahrukh. Deepika Padukone secretly made her place among these faces.
If you think why only Deepika Padukone should be talked about, then the answer is that she has fought a war. From myself and depression. With thoughts of suicide. He had also disclosed this publicly to the media. Despite this, today she has become the second actress in the history of Indian cinema whose total collection of her films so far has reached around Rs 3000 crore. Despite this, she played the brilliant role of Mastani and also showed her strong acting skills by playing Leela.
No one would have done such scenes before Deepika (probably)
No one would have done such scenes before Deepika and even if they had done so, they would not have breathed life into them in the way Deepika did. If you are wondering what kind of scene then let us talk about some scenes. We have already told the first scene – the same one from ‘Love Aaj Kal’.
Secondly, I remember another amazing scene from the movie ‘Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram Leela’. There should be no hesitation in saying that the major reason behind the genre used in this film is the film’s director Sanjay Leela Bhansali. Apart from them, it is not within everyone’s power to bring out acting from the actors in this way. But, he is an actor who can do what the director wants. And in this film, this work was done by Deepika Padukone and Deepika’s husband (now) Ranveer Singh. There is a scene in the film when both of them are arguing on the banks of a pond regarding the fight between Razadi and Saneda. (To see that scene, you can get an idea from the photo given below)
Normally in films, only after one actor finishes speaking the dialogue, the other actor speaks the dialogue. But, in this scene, both of them are seen speaking dialogues together at the same time, blaming each other with the same energy (high energy). This was not seen before or after this in Bollywood films. This method is called in the terminology of films – ‘overlapping dialogue’. Both the actors of Shahrukh and Salman’s film ‘Hum Tumhare Hain Sanam’ were seen talking in this style, but this scene was not that effective because in this scene Shahrukh was seen alone working hard in overlapping dialogues. But someone who first introduced this acting technicality in Bollywood was Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone along with him. Times of India had written about Deepika’s acting in ‘Ram Leela’ – ‘Deepika is seen in breath-taking top form’
Thirdly, you will get to see such an amazing scene in the movie ‘Cocktail’ when Saif and Deepika are arguing among themselves because their friend has left them. In this scene too, Deepika was seen showing amazing acting skills.
Deepika matches Tabu
Tabu is the only Bollywood actress who has maintained her popularity among the audience of both types of films by playing powerful roles in both offbeat and masala films. Deepika Padukone is the only recent actress to be included in this list. Who does not shy away from doing different types of films, from common masala films to understanding the nuances of acting and method acting. And the result is in front of you. She is one of the biggest stars.
