On the other hand, Indal Kumar, the second accused in the case, has been sentenced to 10 years rigorous imprisonment and fined Rs one lakh. Both have also been directed to pay Rs 5,000 each as litigation expenses.

In the year 2014, 16 kg heroin was recovered from Rama and one kg heroin from Indal. At least 25 of Rama’s family members and relatives have drug-trafficking cases registered against them. He was arrested for the first time in 1986.

Tis Hazari Court’s Special Judge Devendra Kumar Sharma, while awarding the sentence to both, said that though it is said to give the accused a chance to reform and realize their mistake, but that goal is far from being achieved. He said that a murderer kills one or two people, but drug peddlers force many people to go to death. In this situation, they need to be punished severely.

The court convicted the two on March 3 and sentenced them on March 29. Both the accused were arrested in April 2014. Rama was arrested near Mother Dairy booth in Tilak Nagar area on April 23 and Indal was arrested later.
