Delhi airport: A major accident took place at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport this morning. Several cars were crushed under the roof of Terminal-1 of Delhi Airport due to the rain. One person died and six people were injured in the accident. Meanwhile, an eyewitness cab driver Krishna Kumar, who was present at the scene, said that there was no loud sound of anything breaking when a beam of a part of the roof fell at Terminal-1.
Eyewitness cab driver Krishna Kumar said that when the rods fell on the cars parked at the accident spot, people came to know about the incident and there was chaos, after which people present there started shouting for help. The government has announced a compensation of Rs 20 lakh to the family of the deceased for this accident. At the same time, an aid of Rs 3 lakh has been announced for the injured.

In fact, amid heavy rains in the capital Delhi, the roof of Terminal-1 of IGI Airport collapsed at 5 am on Friday morning. Due to which six people were injured and one died. The deceased person due to the roof collapse has been identified as Ashish, age 32, resident of Vijay Vihar Sunny Bazaar Road Phase 1 Rohini. Apart from the roof sheet, the support beams also fell, causing great damage to the cars parked in the pick-up and drop area of the terminal.
There was less crowd and traffic at the terminal during the incident – Taxi driver
Another taxi driver Shashi, who was present at the spot, said that when the incident happened, there were less people and less traffic. Meanwhile, officials say that several CRPF jawans deployed on duty immediately informed the local police and fire department deployed at Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport.
At the same time, a police personnel who was on duty at the time of the incident said, “Since the beams were very heavy, we asked the fire department to immediately send earthmovers. Fire department vehicles and their officers also reached the spot with earthmoving machines at around 5:30 in the morning.
