Permission can be obtained soon to run bike-taxi in Delhi. The Delhi government has given final shape to this plan and sent it to the lieutenant governor for approval. After getting permission from the Lieutenant Governor, the way will be clear for running bike taxis in Delhi. The government claims that this will help reduce pollution in Delhi and increase employment opportunities. Earlier, bike taxis were banned in Delhi-NCR by an order keeping in view the safety of passengers.

The Delhi government on Tuesday finalized the draft ‘Motor Vehicle Aggregator Scheme 2023’. According to this, a company will have to electrify five per cent of its fleet in the first six months and gradually its entire operation to start bike-taxis.

After four years, all new commercial two wheelers and three wheelers are mandated to be electric only. All new commercial four wheelers are also required to be electric after 5 years from the date of notification of the scheme. It will also be mandatory for Aggregators and Delivery Service Providers to switch over to all electric fleet by 01 April 2030.

It is claimed that while finalizing this plan, adequate attention has also been given to the safety of the passengers. It will be mandatory to link all bike-taxis to Delhi Police’s emergency service 112. Before giving final shape to the plan, the opinion of the people of Delhi will also be taken about it.
