Expansion

The water crisis in the capital will end soon due to the increase in the amount of ammonia in the Yamuna. The Chandrawal water purification plant under construction will also purify water polluted with ammonia. About 60 per cent work of the project has been completed. In six months, it will start supplying 50 percent fuel, while by August next year, after the completion of the project, the plant will start functioning with a capacity of 105 MGD.

The Delhi government is equipping the Chandrawal water purification plant with state-of-the-art technologies. In this, such water will also be cleaned, in which the amount of ammonia is high. Due to this, the plant will continue to work even if the amount of ammonia in the Yamuna increases, while now usually the existing plant has to be shut down due to the increase in the amount of ammonia in the Yamuna.

Officials say that about 60% of the work on the Chandrawal plant has been completed. The plant’s wastewater collection area is ready, while 90% of the work on the chlorine building and workshop has been completed. Four reservoirs are being built in this plant and their work is 70% done. Apart from this, 22 high-tech filter beds are being installed in the plant to clean the water and 50% of their work has been completed.

Plant being built in 18 acres

90 MGD water is being produced daily from Chandrawal plant-1 and 2, but both the plants are very old. For this reason, the Jal Board is building a new plant in place of these two. Its capacity will be 105 MGD. The plant is being built over 18 acres while the old plant is spread over an area of 25 acres.
