Due to the closure of Jalboard’s Chandrawal and Wazirabad water purification plants due to floods, residents of many areas were seen struggling with drinking water crisis on Saturday as well as on Friday. People had to buy water bottles by paying three times the price. However, there is a possibility of getting rid of the drinking water crisis from Sunday evening, as there is a possibility of starting Chandrawal and Wazirabad water purification plants after the water level in Yamuna recedes. Okhla plant has been commissioned.
On the demand of the people in the affected areas, the Jal Board sent water tankers. Saurabh, a resident of Timarpur, said that he bought a big bottle of water for Rs 100, whereas earlier this bottle was available for Rs 40. Pramod Shastri, a resident of Sita Ram Bazar, told that the water tanker came to his place after several calls.
Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said that the Chandrawal and Wazirabad water treatment plants would become operational on Sunday after the water level of the Yamuna receded. The work of draining the flood water has started in them and the machine will be dried. Drinking water supply will start in the houses of the residents of the areas connected to both the plants.
