Expansion

The Municipal Corporation started 600 Vikalp stores on Saturday. They were formally launched by Mayor Shelly Oberoi. The corporation already has 400 Vikalp stores. Consumers can borrow a cloth bag from any of these stores if they forget to bring one from home.

The corporation hopes that citizens will take advantage of these 1000 Vikalp stores and stop using plastic bags.Delhi generates 11,000 tonnes of waste daily, of which around 10 per cent is plastic waste.

Since the ban on single use plastic, the corporation has launched the 100 Days to Beat Plastic campaign. The campaign got over on Saturday, but still plastic bags are being used indiscriminately in the markets of Delhi. Shopkeepers as well as common citizens are also responsible for this. When people come to buy goods from home, most people do not have bags. That’s why shopkeepers are also compelled to give goods to people in restricted bags.

will get award

In Delhi with a population of over 25 million, the corporation has tried its best to stop the use of plastic. For this the corporation will be awarded the Urban Local Bodies Champion Award at the Plastic Recycling Conference Asia to be held in Mumbai on 27th April. The mayor congratulated the corporation officials and citizens for this, but said that we all have to work together to eliminate plastic.
