In Connaught Place circle too, there was traffic jam all day due to high number of pedestrians and vehicles. There was no place to stand at the bus stand. When the situation worsened, the traffic police had to block the road by placing barricades on various routes leading from India Gate to Connaught Place. Still, every attempt by the police to deal with the jam failed.
Celebration celebrated after two years due to Corona
In the year 2021-22, there was a ban on gathering in public places on New Year due to Corona. Both the years, most people did not go out and celebrate. This year there is no restriction from the government side and Corona cases are also less in Delhi, so a large number of people came out to celebrate the new year. There was a lot of decoration around India Gate. A large number of people had gathered in the Central Park of Connaught Place.
Metro-buses packed with people
Metro and buses remained packed on the first day of the new year. Crowds of people and vehicles were seen everywhere on the roads. By evening, the situation became such that people had to stand and travel even after getting a chance to enter the metro and buses after a lot of effort. At many stations, elderly and women commuters had to wait for another metro or bus. After a lot of struggle, the passengers could reach the ticket counter.
Metro and buses were almost four times more crowded than usual on Sunday. At all major metro stations including Rajiv Chowk, Mandi House, Akshardham Metro station and Central Secretariat on the Blue Line, commuters had to wait in line to reach ticket counters due to rush. Passengers with luggage were seen at many stations. The crowd of passengers at the Central Secretariat Metro station increased so much that even before the counter, there was a competition between the passengers to reach first. By evening there was such a huge crowd that the roads were jammed.
Auto drivers charged more fare
Seeing the crowd, some people took the help of autos. Seeing the number of passengers and the jam, more fare was charged from those traveling in autos. In the evening, the rush increased so much that people took more than one and a half times the time to reach the destination.
People did not get place in buses
