The real causes of pollution in Delhi will now be known at a specific time. Identification of sources of pollution on real time basis has started from Monday. Delhi has become the first state in the country to do so. Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Monday launched the Super-Site and Mobile Air Quality Monitoring Station at SBV Rouse Avenue School to identify sources of pollution on a real-time basis.
On this occasion, Arvind Kejriwal said that now we will know every hour from real time source apportionment study, where, due to which there is pollution and hourly forecast for the next 3 days will also be known. This will help us to know about the pollution caused by vehicles, industry and burning of biomass in any area and will help in fighting it.
He said real-time pollution analysis shows that outdoor pollution in Delhi accounts for one-third, while biomass accounts for one-fourth and vehicles account for 17-18 per cent. We launched the EV policy to reduce pollution in Delhi, bought thousands of new electric buses, increased tree cover to 23.6%, and launched the Red Light On, Gaadi Off campaign. Due to these efforts, pollution in Delhi was the lowest this year as compared to the last 5 years. Environment Minister Gopal Rai, Environment Advisor Reena Gupta and senior officers of the concerned department were present on the occasion.
Will be able to trace the source of pollution even at the ward level
Kejriwal said that the Real Time Source Apportionment Study will tell us every hour that at what time due to what reason there is pollution in Delhi’s air, after which we can take steps to stop it. For example, if there is more pollution from dust inside a ward, then it will be found out that due to which the dust is blowing there and efforts will be made to control it. Similarly, if industrial emissions are high inside a ward, efforts will be made to rectify it. Biomass burning accounts for about a quarter of Delhi’s pollution.
mobile van will be run
Kejriwal said that a mobile van has also been started. If the mobile van is successful, we can buy many such vans and park them in different corners of Delhi. Why the pollution is more in the hotspot area, it will be known and then we will try to reduce the pollution by paying attention to that particular source.
80% of buses will be electric by 2025
The Chief Minister said that by 2025 there will be 11 thousand buses in Delhi. Out of this, 80 percent of the buses will be electric. He said that the roads and footpaths of Delhi will be cleaned daily with machines, the roads will be washed daily. This will reduce pollution a lot. During sweeping, mud flies from the top of Delhi’s roads. Even when vehicles move when there is mud on the road, the mud gets blown up. If we clean that soil, it will have a huge impact on pollution.
Will prepare plan with NCR
Environment Minister Gopal Rai said that this station has been set up so that the source of pollution can be known in real time and a solution can be made accordingly. In future, on the basis of advice and direction of scientists of IIT Kanpur and IIT Delhi, information about vehicles, dust, biomass burning and local pollution etc. will be available on real time basis. On the basis of this, we will discuss with the governments of NCR and plan to control pollution. This will give us scientific data.
Delhi NCR pollution washed away by rain
After the rains in Delhi-NCR, there was a huge drop in the pollution level. It is expected that the pollution level in Delhi will remain in the poor category for the next two days. It rained in most areas of Delhi-NCR till 8.30 am on Monday morning, leading to a drop of 124 points in Delhi’s pollution index.
According to the Central Pollution Control Board, Delhi recorded a pollution index of 207 on Monday, while it was 179 in Faridabad, 113 in Bahadurgarh, 100 in Ballabhgarh, 156 in Greater Noida, 170 in Noida and 117 in Gurugram. SAFAR forecasts that Delhi’s pollution level may remain in the poor category for the next two days. Wind is expected to blow from north-west direction in Delhi on Tuesday.
Due to the strong wind blowing on the lower surface, the level of pollution will remain low. According to the Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology (IITM), the pollution level declined due to favorable weather conditions. The mixing height remained at 500 meters on Tuesday due to the falling temperature due to rain. The ventilation index was also below average.
