The fire department in the national capital New Delhi received an average of 86 calls every day last year, while four people lost their lives in some accident every day. On Monday, Delhi Fire Service released the figures of calls received throughout the year. According to the data, 1266 people lost their lives in accidents in the year 2023 instead of 1029 in the year 2022. 59 people died due to burns in the fire. The fire department also saved the lives of 3129 people on different occasions. However, if we talk about the calls received throughout the year, there has been a slight decline in them.
In the year 2023, 31399 calls were received instead of 31958 in the year 2022, but despite the reduction in calls, the number of deaths has increased. Fire Department Director Atul Garg said that the fire department in the capital receives on an average 86-87 calls every day. More or less half of these are fires, while the rest are other accidents in which the fire department is called for help. A large number of these calls also involve saving animals and birds.
In the year 2023, 3533 calls were received to save animals while 3868 calls were received to save birds. The highest number of calls in the entire year was 3158 in the month of August. During Covid, there was a significant decrease in the number of calls in the years 2020-21 and 2021-22, but later the figure again crossed 31 thousand. Atul Garg said that the department takes its action in every calls. Often the call turns out to be fake and the staff has to come back. Garg said that any accident can be avoided with awareness and caution. In case of an accident, immediately inform the concerned department.
