Kejriwal government has taken major action after the incident of a youth falling into a borewell in Delhi. The Delhi government said in one of its orders that all the borewells in Delhi should be closed within 48 hours. A man fell into a 40-45 feet deep borewell built at Delhi Jal Board’s Keshopur Mandi Water Treatment Plant on Saturday night. A rescue operation was conducted to get the person out of the borewell safely. After this, on Sunday evening the person was taken out from the borewell in an injured condition. At the same time, he was admitted to DDU Hospital for treatment, where the doctor declared him dead.

All the officials of Delhi Jal Board have been instructed that action will be taken against all those who were responsible for the safety of this borewell. Delhi government said that all the open borewells of Delhi will be sealed within the next 48 hours. In this matter, Water Minister Atishi said that an incident of a person falling into a borewell has come to light in Keshopur. After reaching the spot, I inspected the situation.

The borewell was in a locked room. Prima facie it seems that an attempt was made to enter by forcefully breaking the lock. Police will investigate it. To ensure that such cases do not come up again, strict orders have been given to the Jal Board that all private and government borewells lying closed in Delhi should be sealed by welding within 48 hours and a report should be submitted to me.
