The petition regarding providing textbooks to more than two lakh students was heard in the High Court on Monday. The court said that Arvind Kejriwal’s decision to continue as Chief Minister even after his arrest is a personal decision, but it does not mean that the fundamental rights of school going children will be trampled.
The court said that students of MCD schools are entitled to free textbooks, uniforms as per their constitutional rights. Schools are going to close for summer holidays soon. In such a situation, the MCD Commissioner has been directed to immediately bear the necessary expenditure to fulfill the obligations without being constrained by the expenditure limit of Rs 5 crore.
