Delhi: Heroin Worth Rs 2.5 Crore Seized From African National, Police Arrested ‘Sunday’

The Narcotics Cell of Outer District has arrested an African national who was supplying heroin. Police have recovered 1.01 kg of heroin from the possession of the accused, whose value is estimated to be around Rs 2.5 crore.

The accused had come to India on a medical visa for three months and lived illegally in Shiv Vihar and worked in the African kitchen. The police is interrogating the accused and is investigating. He has been identified as Sunday Okeke Ugwoke, a resident of Nigeria.

The Narcotics Cell of Outer District received information that a person named Sunday was running African Rasoi in Shiv Vihar. He supplies heroin in Delhi and NCR under the guise of a kitchen. On this information, the police increased surveillance on him. On April 7, the police got information about the accused coming to Tilak Nagar for heroin supply.

The police team immediately laid siege near his house. After some time, the police saw a man of African origin carrying a paper bag from the four-storey house. As the police moved towards him, the accused started trying to quickly enter the house. Meanwhile, the police caught him. During the search, two polythene packets were found with him. 302 grams of heroin was found in one packet and 708 grams in the other. The value of the recovered heroin was estimated at Rs 2.5 crore.

Came to India on medical visa

The accused told that he had come to India in January 2020 on a three-month medical visa. His friend Kenchikavu was already living in Chander Vihar when he came to India. Kenchikavu helped her find a job in an African kitchen in Chander Vihar. African food and drinks are served in this kitchen. African people used to gather here. While working in the kitchen, Sunday became aware of buying and selling drugs from Africans. He then rented a flat in Shiv Vihar to run his own African kitchen.

Africans bring heroin

The accused said that many Nigerians come to India for a very short period of time. They bring heroin into India and return to Nigeria after handing over the heroin to suppliers in Delhi and NCR. He told that he had bought the heroin recovered from him from Ugochukwu, a citizen of Nigeria.
