Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena wrote a letter to the Union Home Ministry. In this letter he wrote, ‘Showing insensitivity and lack of seriousness, Delhi ministers refused to participate in the meetings called by the Lieutenant Governor to discuss the functioning of their ministries after the arrest of Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal. Kejriwal was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on March 21 in a money-laundering case related to Delhi’s now defunct excise policy.

In his letter to the Union Home Secretary, the LG said, ‘Such a consultation was necessary so that the regular functioning of governance is not disrupted due to Kejriwal’s detention, but the ministers rejected his invitation on the specific grounds of the Model Code. ‘ LG VK Saxena further wrote in the letter, ‘Information was sent to Gopal Rai, Kailash Gehlot, Atishi and Saurabh Bhardwaj for the meeting on April 2. However, all the ministers have refused to attend the said meeting through email on this specific ground. The Model Code of Conduct is in force, so such a meeting would not be appropriate at this stage.

The letter said, ‘The Honorable Lieutenant Governor is of the view that such consultation was necessary, so that the regular functioning of the government is not disrupted in the backdrop of the arrest and detention of the Chief Minister. The rationale given for not attending the meeting appears vague and displays a lack of seriousness and insensitivity towards matters affecting the daily lives of the citizens of Delhi.’
