Expansion

The outbreak of dengue, malaria and chikungunya is increasing rapidly in the capital and these diseases have now started taking dangerous forms. The MCD has confirmed three deaths from dengue for the first time this year, marking an outbreak of the waterborne disease. There has been a significant increase in the cases of these three diseases last week as compared to the last two weeks. Especially the situation of dengue has become very worrying.

485 new cases of dengue were recorded in the capital last week, taking the total number of dengue cases this year to over 2000. This figure is proof that dengue infection is spreading rapidly in the capital and is becoming a challenge for the health department. Due to the increasing number of dengue patients, crowding in hospitals is increasing and health services are under heavy pressure. Due to drop in platelets and severe cases of fever in patients, long queues are being formed in hospitals for treatment.

More than 50-50 cases of dengue have been reported in four zones of MCD last week. Maximum 69 dengue cases were reported in Najafgarh. While 67 dengue cases were recorded in the South Zone and 65 in the Shahdara North Zone, 52 dengue cases were reported in the Central Zone. The least outbreak of dengue was seen in Narela and Rohini zones. Less than 20-20 dengue cases were recorded in this zone.

Malaria and chikungunya cases also increased

Apart from dengue, cases of malaria and chikungunya are also increasing continuously. Last week, 81 new cases of malaria were reported, taking the total number of malaria cases this year to above 500. The increasing number of malaria also shows that mosquito-borne diseases are spreading rapidly and there is a need to take effective steps to stop them. Along with this, 14 new cases of chikungunya have also been registered.
