Chief Public Relations Officer of Delhi Metro, Anuj Dayal said that the construction work of 860 meter long tunnel was completed at Chhatarpur Mandir station on Saturday morning. Two parallel circular tunnels have been constructed for up and down traffic on this section, part of the Aerocity-Tughlaqabad corridor. The construction work of the second parallel tunnel was completed on 21 August. This tunnel is at an average depth of 12 meters. About 613 rings are installed in the tunnel, whose internal diameter is 5.8 meters. There were many challenges in the tunnel construction work. This included shifting of 66 KV electrical HT line and completing the construction work without disrupting train operations on the Yellow Line.

The tunnel has been constructed using EPBM (Earth Pressure Balancing Method) technology. It has a concrete lining made of precast tunnel rings. These tunnel rings were cast in the mechanized casting yard at Mundka. DMRC MD Dr. Vikas Kumar and other senior officials were present on this occasion.

Ongoing construction of 40.109 km underground lines

According to officials, 40.109 km of underground lines are being constructed for the three corridors under construction under Phase-4 of the Metro. The Aerocity-Tughlaqabad corridor has a total of 19.343 km underground section. Metro is using TBM to construct the underground tunnel. This machine is used for making underground tunnels in congested urban areas. Metro has been using TBM since the construction of the first phase corridor.
