Expansion
The number of Automatic Fare Collection (AFC) gates will be increased to reduce the pressure of passenger rush at Delhi Metro stations. DMRC has issued a tender for this. Additional gates will be installed in a phased manner in a year. At present, an average of 60 to 70 lakh people travel in the metro every day. In such a situation, there is a crowd of passengers at the AFC gate at many stations. With the installation of additional gates, the journey of passengers will become easier.
Metro officials said that tender has been issued for 243 AFC gates. Additional gates will be installed on corridors where there is greater need. At present the total network of Metro in NCR is 393 km and there are 3184 AFC gates installed at the stations. These days the number of passengers in the metro has increased. According to DMRC, so far this year there have been 19 days when passenger travel in the metro has been more than 70 lakh.
On August 20, maximum number of people traveled in the metro. Yellow Line Samaypur Badli-Millennium City Center Gurugram has the highest number of passengers traveling. After this is the Blue Line Dwarka Sector 21-Electronic City/Vaishali Corridor. At number three is the Red Line Rithala-New Bus Stand Ghaziabad corridor. The number of AFC gates will be increased at some major metro stations of the three corridors. Additional gates will also be installed on other corridors.
