The process of handing over the operation of the capital’s lifeline metro to private companies has been expedited. Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has issued a tender notice to hand over the operations of the Metro on the Violet Line to a private company.

The command of metro will be in the hands of private companies

About two months ago, the process of handing over the metro operations on the Red Line to private hands was started. Now tender notice has been issued for Violet Line. At the same time, the operation of the metro on the Yellow Line is already in private hands. If everything goes well, then operation of trains on three out of 12 lines of Delhi Metro will be in the hands of private companies.

Tender process will start

Sources say that if everything goes well after the completion of the tender process, then a private company will operate the Metro on the Violet Line from September 2024. At the same time, the operation of the metro on the Yellow Line was handed over to private hands in the year 2021. The contract here expires next year. Sources said that the private company will be entrusted with the responsibility of operation for six years. The cost of this scheme will be Rs 96.29 crore.

Appointment process will start after allotment

After the tender allotment, the company will have to appoint train drivers within two and a half months. After this, DMRC will train the drivers for two and a half months. After training, employees provided by the company must pass an examination. Maximum two chances will be given for this examination. If he does not pass the exam twice, he will not be retained. Train drivers will not be required to work more than 48 hours a week.
