The National Scheduled Tribes Commission celebrated the 19th Foundation Day of the Commission at its office in New Delhi on Saturday. On this occasion, Commission Chairman Harsh Chauhan said that the Commission was formed to protect the interests of the Scheduled Tribes and to provide justice to them. The Commission is engaged in this task with full dedication, but if we talk about providing justice to the Scheduled Tribes, then we have to see whether our judicial system is able to reach them? Are the people of tribal society able to reach the court?

He further says that in such a situation, the best option for him to get justice is the National Commission for Scheduled Tribes. The commission ensures easy and accessible constitutional system to ensure that the tribal society gets justice and their constitutional rights are protected. We should make more and more efforts in the coming times to give the tribal society their constitutional rights and stop the injustice done to them. For this, hearing needs to be increased keeping in view the complaints coming from the tribal society using technology.

Highlighting the new roles of the Commission, he said that for the last 19 years, the Commission has performed its duties properly. In today’s new era, while fulfilling the traditional responsibilities, the commission has also started working on new dimensions under its constitutional responsibilities and powers. He said that apart from hearing the complaints, the Commission has also started research and participation in the process of policy making on the issues of identity, existence and development of tribal society. Dialogue workshops have been organized to increase the participation of tribal society in the development process.

Programs were organized in 104 universities

By organizing programs in 104 universities of the country, the commission made an amazing reach to the tribal society. Discussing the powers and resolutions and responsibilities of the Commission at the function, Alka Tiwari, Secretary of the Commission said that the Commission being a constitutional body and having the powers of civil courts, is capable of doing a lot for the Scheduled Tribes of the country. He said that it is the duty of the Commission to ensure the development of the tribal society and review the development plans made for it and give appropriate suggestions to the governments.

On this occasion, Anant Nayak of the Commission said that we have to work in a human way, not like a machine. On this occasion, a book written by Gajanan Dange, a social worker working in tribal society, on the subject of tribal research was also released. The program was moderated by Miranda Eingudum, Director of the Commission and the vote of thanks was proposed by K Tauthang, Joint Secretary of the Commission.
