Flood-like situation in many villages along Najafgarh drain, situation in Rawta and Daurala reached the verge of worsening

New Delhi. The increase in the water level in Yamuna river has affected not only the areas situated on its banks, but also the border villages of Delhi. Several villages along the Sahibi river (Najafgarh drain) have been in a flood-like situation, while the situation in Rawta and Daurala villages, which have been reeling under year-round flood-like conditions for several years, is on the verge of worsening. In fact, due to the increase in the water level in the Yamuna river, the Najafgarh drain and the drains falling into it were closed. Due to this the Najafgarh drain overflowed and its water reached near the residential areas of Rawta and Daurala villages.
On the Haryana side, there is no dam on the Najafgarh drain in many parts. Rawta and Daurala villages bordering Delhi also come in this part. Because of this, like many villages in Haryana, about 300 acres of agricultural land of the farmers of these two villages of Delhi remains waterlogged throughout the year. Recently, the Najafgarh drain was closed like all other drains due to increase in the water level in Yamuna river. Because of this, the scope of flood has increased in the agricultural land of Rawta and Daurala villages. During this, about 400 acres of agricultural land in the villages has been hit by flood and in Daurala village too, flood water has accumulated on a lot of agricultural land.
Birendra Tokas, a resident of Rawta village, told that flood water has reached near the village. If it rains in the area or if the water level in the Yamuna rises excessively, water will enter his village as well. On the other hand, Mahaveer of the same village told that due to the increase in the flood water on the agricultural land, due to this, most of the villagers in the village will face the problem of shortage of food grains, while for many years half of the villagers have to buy food grains. On the other hand, according to Shubharam of Daurala village, like Rawta, the villagers of his village will also face shortage of food grains due to accumulation of several feet of water on the agricultural land.
Due to Najafgarh drain overflow, there has been a problem of drainage of rain water in villages like Ghalibpur, Sarangpur, Jhuljhali, Malikpur, Dariapur Khurd, Ghumanheda, Shikarpur, Jhatikara etc. In the event of rains in the area, the roads and streets of these villages get submerged and flood-like conditions arise in these villages for several hours. It has been raining in these villages for the last many days.
