Delhi Police has filed a chargesheet of about 500 pages against Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s aide Bibhav Kumar in the alleged assault case on Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Rajya Sabha member Swati Maliwal. In the chargesheet, the police has claimed that there is sufficient evidence to prosecute Kumar. Appropriate legal action should be taken against him.

Bibhav Kumar is accused of assaulting Swati Maliwal at the Chief Minister’s official residence on May 13. The chargesheet has been filed in the court of Metropolitan Magistrate Gaurav Goyal of Tis Hazari Court. On the issue of taking cognizance of the chargesheet, the magistrate said that he will consider it on July 30. He has also extended Kumar’s judicial custody till July 30.

The magistrate directed the police to present Bibhav Kumar on July 30. However, he was presented in the court on Tuesday through video conferencing. In the chargesheet, the policemen of the security unit of Delhi Police present in the Chief Minister’s residence during the incident, the policemen associated with the investigation, the AIIMS doctors who conducted Maliwal’s medical examination and others have been made witnesses.

During the hearing, the prosecution informed the court that the chargesheet is about 500 pages long. It also includes statements of 50 witnesses. The police have filed the chargesheet under IPC sections 201 (causing disappearance of evidence of crime), 308 (attempt to commit culpable homicide), 341 (wrongful restraint), 354 (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty), 354 B (using force against woman with intent to disrobe her), 506 (criminal intimidation) and 509 (using any word, gesture or object to insult the modesty of woman).
