Despite slight improvement in weather conditions, Delhi’s air remained very bad. On the first day of the new year, the pollution index remained 300 in about 80 percent of the areas. It is a matter of relief that the air was not in serious category anywhere in Delhi, whereas a day earlier the situation was serious at 14 centers in Delhi. In view of the improvement in air quality, the Air Quality Management Commission has removed Group 3 restrictions from Delhi-NCR. However, the restrictions under Grap-1 and Grap-2 will remain in force.

On Monday, Delhi’s Air Quality Index (AQI) was recorded at 346, which is in the very poor category. This is 36 points less than Sunday. Due to light fog on Monday morning, pollution particles did not get a chance to spread, there was some relief due to light sunshine during the day. The air was in very poor category in 32 areas. Apart from this, AQI remained beyond 200 in three areas. Delhi’s air overall remained in the very poor category. More or less, the same situation will continue till Thursday.
