Rain In Delhi: While heavy rains in Delhi NCR brought smiles on the faces of common people, many VIP areas including Lutyens Delhi were flooded. The rain was such that the residences of many leaders and ministers located in Lutyens Delhi were flooded with water. Due to waterlogging, flood-like situation arose in the main areas of the city and traffic was disrupted. On Friday (28 June 2024), when the leaders left their respective residences for the Lok Sabha session, they had to face a lot of problems.

Rain drowns Lutyens Delhi

Due to the rain, the houses of Congress leader Shashi Tharoor, MP Manish Tiwari, Samajwadi Party leader Ram Gopal Yadav, former Protem Speaker Bhartruhari Mahtab, Congress MP Tariq Anwar, Delhi Minister Atishi got flooded. Congress leader Shashi Tharoor posted a video on Instagram and told how his Lutyens house got flooded with water up to one foot due to the continuous rain in Delhi.

Shashi Tharoor’s house submerged

Sharing a video of his house, he said, “This is the corner right outside my house in Lutyens Delhi. When I woke up in the morning, my entire house was submerged in a foot of water. Everything on the ground was ruined, including carpets and furniture. Apparently the drains in the neighbourhood are clogged with rainwater, so there is no way for the water to drain out. They switched off the electricity from 6 am onwards for fear of people getting electrocuted. I informed my Parliament colleagues that I cannot reach there without a boat, but after the water was drained from the roads, I reached Parliament on time.”

MP Manish Tiwari’s residence submerged

Due to the jam in Delhi NR, especially office goers and other passengers had to face a lot of trouble. Congress MP Manish Tiwari also posted a video on Twitter in which his house is seen flooded. He is seen wading through the water to reach his car.

Ram Gopal Yadav’s entire house was flooded with water

Samajwadi Party MP Ram Gopal Yadav also faced difficulties in reaching Parliament. His staff members and others helped him by lifting him and taking him to the car. The area around his residence is completely submerged.

Water also entered the house of NITI Aayog member Dr VK Paul. Delhi Police said that it has received many calls since morning regarding traffic problems, waterlogging and uprooted trees. Passengers carrying their children had to wade through knee-deep water on the submerged roads in the New Delhi Railway Station area. In some areas, metro stations were also flooded, due to which people had to face problems.
