Expansion

The major bottleneck in reaching Jangpura yard of Delhi-Meerut RRTS corridor has been removed. Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena has approved the proposal to give land for this, saying it is of national importance. Now an elevated road will be built between Ring Road and Jangpura. With this, passengers will be able to easily reach this last station of Rapid Rail.

The Raj Niwas office says that this land of about 300 sqm was under the Delhi Urban Shelter Improvement Board (DUSIB). The proposal to give it land for the project was pending for almost two years. It has now been approved after completing the necessary formalities.

The National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) is developing Jangpura yard into a transit hub. The initial plan was to develop this place as a rapid rail yard. At the same time, along with the residential colony, the corporate office was also to be built here. Later it was decided that a station should also be built here. With this the traffic load of Sarai Kale Khan station can be reduced. This transit hub is surrounded by rail lines on three sides.

In this case, the entry and exit route of the transit hub will be on the ring road. NCTC plans to build an elevated corridor. Under this project, an elevated road is to be constructed from the point where it meets the Ring Road of DND. Meanwhile, 297 square meters of DUSIB’s land was lying vacant. In June 2021, permission was given to work on ‘as is where is’ basis, but the work could not start due to non-transfer of land permanently, while the tender was allotted by NCRTC. And also to complete the project within 19 months from the start.

The Chief Secretary had told the approval necessary

In March 2022, the Delhi government stated that the entire land in question belonged to DUSIB. Therefore, the approval of the Lieutenant Governor is not required for this. Thereafter, the Minister (UD) and the Chief Minister approved the land transfer, but the Chief Secretary, considering the land as a reserved subject, called the approval of the Lieutenant Governor necessary and sent the proposal to the Lieutenant Governor for approval. Now the Lieutenant Governor has approved the project, calling it a project of national importance.
