Vehicles in the national capital fill the maximum speed on the Mehrauli-Gurugram Road (MG Road) from Mehrauli in South Delhi to Gurugram. In the year 2022, the highest number of 117166 challans have been done for speeding vehicles on this route.
It has also been revealed in the survey of Delhi Traffic Police that in some parts of South and East Delhi, vehicles move at high speed. Now the traffic police is going to install speed cameras all over Delhi. It will be linked to the Safe City Project.
A senior Delhi Traffic Police official said that the Speed Violation Detection System (OSVD) and Red Light Violation Detection System (RLVD) are meant to make the citizens of Delhi follow the traffic rules while remaining disciplined on the road. Under these, OSVDs have been installed on major roads and RLVDs have been installed at red lights of major intersections. According to police officials, the traffic police have installed 3D radar based OSVDs and RLVDs on major roads and junctions. Delhi Traffic Police is now going to install OSVD and RLVD all over Delhi.
These cameras measure the speed of the vehicle moving at a higher speed than the prescribed norms and sends information about the number plate, time and place of the vehicle to the control room of the traffic police. From here the notice challan is sent to the driver from his mobile number, home and e-mail. Police officials say that traffic policemen cannot be deployed on the roads for 24 hours to control the speed of vehicles.
