Rajkumar Singh / Vaishali. Banana of Hajipur is famous in the country and the world. There was a time when people of every house in Hajipur used to cultivate bananas. But on one hand, people had started turning away from banana farming due to the disease affecting bananas, and on top of that, due to not getting a reasonable price. The situation had become such that people used to buy bananas from outside even during festivals. However, now once again banana cultivation has gained momentum in Hajipur. Now banana cultivation has been started here with the help of modern technology. Due to this, the farmers have started earning well. Ravindra Singh is one such farmer in Chandi village of Sadar block area, who has cultivated bananas in 17 acres.
Also used as a vegetable
Ravindra Singh told that Barsain banana fruits four times in a year. Which is used as a fruit as well as a vegetable. He told that banana bhujia is also very tasty. Usually people like to eat banana bhujia with rice and lentils. Vegetables are made from only Barsain variety of banana.
They say that banana earns up to five lakhs in a year. He told that though the demand for bananas remains throughout the years, but the importance of bananas increases even more during the Chhath festival. That’s why at that time bananas are supplied not only to Bihar but also to Jharkhand.
GI tag coming soon
He told that today’s youth run after government jobs. But if the youth do banana farming then they can earn lakhs sitting at home. Knowing this, it is said that even today many types of bananas are cultivated in the rural areas of the district. In which Chiniya, Barsain, Alpan, Batisa, Muthra are included. Let us inform that the banana of world famous Hajipur is also going to get GI tag. After this banana will get a new identity. Farmers will be able to do the banana cultivation from which the farmers had turned away.
