In Transport Nagar, Agra, Uttar Pradesh, dengue larvae were breeding in the water filled in old tyres and coolers kept in front of shops. The enforcement team of the Municipal Corporation on Saturday collected a fine of Rs 1.57 lakh from such shopkeepers. The tyres were also confiscated and kept in the Municipal Corporation store. The shopkeepers opposed this action of the Municipal Corporation.

Under the Communicable Disease Control Campaign, Nagar Nigam Enforcement Team Incharge Dr. Ajay Kumar Singh inspected the shops in Transport Nagar and found rain water filled in coolers and tyres. Dengue larvae were growing in them. The tyres were confiscated after mosquito larvae were found growing in the empty tyres. Four shops including Saloni Motors, Shivam Diesels, Baba Automobiles were fined Rs. 1000 each after dengue larvae were found in the cooler water.

Shopkeepers Sachin Jain, Abhishek Jain and Sabbu were fined Rs 10,000 each and Sunil Rathore was fined Rs 20,000 for encroaching on public land. Advocate Qureshi was fined Rs 25,000 for burning coal furnace to repair tyres.

Enforcement in-charge Dr. Ajay Kumar said that a total fine of 82 thousand rupees has been imposed on encroachment and filling water in coolers and tyres, and 75 thousand rupees on those burning coal furnaces. The corporation got anti-larvae sprayed in the drains here. He warned that wherever dengue larvae are found in coolers, a fine of one thousand rupees will be imposed.
