Despite light rain in the capital, there has been no relief from pollution. For the second day on Monday, people breathed severe air quality. A thick blanket of smog remained throughout the day. According to the Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology (IITM), the wind blew from the easterly direction. During this period the wind speed was six kilometers per hour, which increased to four kilometers per hour in the evening. In such a situation, the Air Quality Index (AQI) of Delhi was recorded at 406. This is in serious category. AQI was recorded in severe category in 21 areas including Bawana, Nehru Nagar, Mundka. Whereas, the air remained very bad in 10 areas including Aya Nagar, IGI Airport. After Delhi, Ghaziabad remained the most polluted in NCR.
Despite the implementation of Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP), air quality is not improving, hence people are forced to breathe polluted air. The Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) has predicted that pollution is expected to improve from Tuesday, hence the air is expected to reach the very poor category. It had started drizzling since morning on Monday, hence there was smog along with fog. There was some sunshine during the day, but a thick blanket of smog remained in the sky. At the same time, the ventilation index was 4200 cubic meters per second. The ventilation index is estimated to be 500 cubic meters per second within 24 hours. Also, the mixing depth was recorded at 520 meters.
