The results of the Gujarat assembly elections are out. This time the Bharatiya Janata Party has created a new record. In Gujarat, which has 182 assembly seats, 156 BJP candidates won the elections. The Congress suffered the most. The Congress came straight down to 17 from 77 seats. Means Congress had to bear the loss of 60 seats. At the same time, this time only five candidates of the Aam Aadmi Party, which claimed to form the government, could win the elections. The SP candidate won one seat, while the remaining three seats were won by independent candidates.
The BJP had fielded Arvind Patel from Dharampur assembly seat in Valsad district. In front of him was Kamleshbhai Patel of AAP. Talking about the result, here BJP’s Arvind Patel defeated AAP’s Kamleshbhai Patel by 33,327 votes. BJP’s Arvind Patel got 83,544 votes. Whereas, AAP’s Kamleshbhai Patel had to satisfy with 50,217 votes. Congress’s Kishanbhai Patel came third. Kishanbhai Patel got 33,507 votes which was 16.94 percent of the total votes. There were six candidates, including the BSP candidate, whose deposits were also forfeited. NOTA got 4,189 votes here.
BJP got victory in 2017
BJP’s Arvind Patel won the Dharampur assembly seat in the 2017 assembly elections as well. In this election, Arvind Patel defeated Ishwarbhai Patel of Congress by 22 thousand votes. Here a total of five candidates were in the fray. Apart from these two, the deposits of the other three candidates were forfeited. Before 2017, the Congress had won this seat in four consecutive elections. The Congress had won the assembly elections in 2002, 2007 and 2012 as well as the 2004 bypolls held here.
Arvind Patel gave second consecutive victory
Before this election, the contest used to be between Congress and BJP here. The BJP’s first win here was in 1990, after which the party won three consecutive elections. The last victory of the Congress was achieved in the 2012 elections. Arvind Patel from BJP has won the party for the second time in a row. So far, a total of 16 elections including two by-elections have been held on this seat. Congress has won this seat seven times. At the same time, BJP candidates have been successful in winning six times. The Congress (O) candidates won this seat twice, while the Praja Socialist Party won once.
