Expansion

A digital library will be established in the Government Museum preserving the ancient history and culture of Braj in Mathura, Uttar Pradesh. With this, complete information in the form of text or photo-video will be available about all the statues and artefacts kept in the museum on one click.

The Government Museum was established in 1874 by the British collector FS Grose. The Government Museum of Mathura is very important from the point of view of archaeology, history, culture and research, where apart from tourists, researchers from India and abroad keep coming. Especially people from countries like China, Japan, Thailand and Korea who follow Buddhism reach Mathura Government Museum.

However, relative to its importance, the number of people coming here remains less. The biggest reason for this is that there is no guide to give complete information about such a huge and very important archaeological wealth. Departmental employees only provide a little information to the tourists, which is inadequate.

Now to solve this problem, a digital library will be established in the museum. In this, tourists coming to the museum will be able to get all the information about any statue or artwork displayed through the digital library. Its proposal was made and sent to the government. After the agency is determined by the government, DPR of the action plan will be prepared and photos and videos will be uploaded along with the matter.

This is the collection of the Government Museum

  • Stone Sculptures – 5058
  • Dead Sculptures – 2797
  • Bronze Sculptures – 350
  • Utensils – 292

A proposal for a digital library in the Government Museum has been made and sent to the government. The process of selection of the executing agency is being done at the government level. -Yogesh Yadav, Deputy Director, Government Museum
