A grand pandal is being constructed for Kali Puja at Netaji Subhash Chowk (Refugee Colony Chowk) of Saharsa city. Preparations for the puja are in the final stages. The statue of Maa Kali is being given final shape by the sculptor.

Committee members said that this time also a four-day fair has been organised. The statue will be consecrated at midnight on 31st October. Pooja recitation and Prasad will be distributed on November 1. There will be 56 offerings on November 2 and immersion on November 3.

Puja started from year 1971

Local people said that 53 years ago, during the India-Pakistan war in 1971, at the Refugee Colony Chowk established by the Government of India in Saharsa for the Hindu refugees who had come from Bangladesh, the then Bangladeshi Hindu refugees, along with the people of Bengal and the local people, met with India-Pakistan. Kali Puja was organized to wish for India’s victory in the war. After that, Maa Kali Puja is organized every year by the Government of India to commemorate the creation of Bangladesh and India’s victory by dividing Pakistan.

People demanded no entry

Due to the bypass going to Sharma Chowk and the temple at the mouth of Netaji Subhash Chowk, there is often a problem of traffic jam. Due to no entry, there is always movement of big and heavy vehicles. Local people and members of the temple committee have demanded from the district administration to impose no entry from Kahra Kuti.
