Expansion

Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) is now preparing to hand over the responsibility of maintenance of trains and equipment installed in the depot to private hands. For this, the tender process has been started. In the initial phase, DMRC has taken the initiative to hand over the metro trains of Badli depot of Yellow Line to a private agency. If any private agency shows interest in this plan of DMRC, then by the end of this year, any private agency can take over the responsibility of maintenance of metro trains in Badli depot.

The Yellow Line corridor was expanded in six phases between December 2004 and November 2015. The 49 km long Yellow Line is the busiest corridor of Delhi Metro. There are 37 metro stations on this corridor and 64 metro trains run on it every day. There are three depots for the maintenance of metro trains of this corridor. These include Khyber Pass, Sultanpur and Badli depots. An initiative has been taken to give the responsibility of maintenance of 20 trains of Badli depot to a private contractor for ten years.

400 crore rupees will be spent

Officials said that DMRC will spend about 400 crores on the maintenance of trains in 10 years. At present, DMRC itself maintains the trains. This initiative has been taken to reduce the maintenance cost. It is worth mentioning that for the last few years, a private agency has been handling the responsibility of operating the metro on the Yellow Line.
