Do astronauts not age quickly because of being in space? This research has revealed a big thing

There is a movie called Interstellar. If you are interested in space, you must watch this movie. This movie released in 2014 will blow your mind. Many aspects of space, time and gravity have been touched upon in this movie.

Apart from this, it is shown in this film that how a person from earth goes to space and when he returns after many years, his age remains the same and his children on earth grow old and die. Now the question arises whether the astronauts in space really age more slowly than the people on earth. Let’s know what science says about this.

What was found in the research

In 2015, a research was conducted on two twin brothers to find the answer to this question. During this research, one brother was sent into space for about a year and the other brother was kept on Earth. 84 researchers from about 12 universities were working on this research. In 2019, when the results of this research were published in the Science Journal, everyone was shocked.

What was the result

According to the report published in the Science Journal, when Scott, one of the twin brothers, reached space, about a thousand genes in his body changed. The biggest change in these one thousand changes was seen in telomere. Telomere is a protein present at the ends of the chromosome. When a person is on earth, due to telomere, DNA starts getting shorter with time and due to this, aging starts appearing in the cells, which makes the person look old.

But this was not happening with Scott. As soon as Scott went into space, it was found that the size of his DNA was increasing. As the space journey was getting longer, these changes were also increasing. In a short time, it seemed that Scott was starting to look younger than his twin brother on Earth. By this time, about 91.3 percent of his genes had changed.

What happened after returning to earth

However, as fast as these changes happened… everything became normal within 6 months of coming back to earth. That is, Scott who looked younger than his twin brother in space, started looking old like him after 6 months of coming back to earth. In a short time, his DNA also became the same as it was while he was on earth.
