If the engine is not installed in the train, then all the iron boxes attached to it are of no use. That is, the most important part of the train is its engine. But do you know that this engine also needs help at times. Indian Railways takes millions of people of the country to their destination everyday with great ease. Whatever may be the weather, the train reaches you safely to your station. But sometimes due to bad weather, there is a problem in running the train, the solution to these problems is the sand box. Today, in this article, we will give you information about the same. The tracks get wet and they become slippery. Then the train has difficulty in running on those tracks. This problem is overcome by the sand box which is installed in the engine of the train itself. Actually, due to wet tracks, there is a problem in making the train speed and many times the wheel starts rotating at its own place. To deal with this problem, the loco pilots who run the trains use sand boxes and sprinkle sand on the tracks. Due to this, the friction between the tracks and the train wheels increases and the train gallops smoothly in any weather at the right speed.
How does this sandbox work?
Actually, when due to water, dew, oil or grease, the smoothness on the railway tracks increases and the train wheel starts rotating at its own place, then sand boxes are used. To use the sand box, the loco pilot first reduces the voltage by lowering the notch, then presses the sander switch. As soon as the loco pilot presses this switch, the sand box starts its work and starts pouring dry sand on the tracks. Due to this, wheel slip is reduced and the train starts moving forward easily.
