1. Dr. Dimple Jangra According to the USDA, onions should be stored at 45 to 50 degrees Fahrenheit (just above refrigeration levels). Onions should not be kept in bags, because they also need air to breathe. Also, do not store onions with potatoes, because potatoes can emit moisture, which increases the speed of rotting of onions.

2. Studies conducted by the National Library of Medicine have shown that it is best to store onions at a temperature of 40-50°F (4-10°C). At this temperature, onions retain their characteristics best. Temperature of 10 degrees Celsius to 25 degrees Celsius was found to be optimal for sprouting. Not only this, germination in onion is a sign that the onion has gone bad. In such a situation, one should avoid consuming it.

Do not keep cut onions in the fridge
-Many times, after adding it to salad or vegetable, some chopped onion is left over, which people keep in the refrigerator. You should not do this at all, because they absorb moisture quickly, due to which bacteria and fungus start growing. You can marinate onions, pickle them and soak them in olive oil to preserve them. Oil prevents onions from absorbing moisture.

Onions are unable to adapt properly to cold temperatures and humidity and they begin converting starch into sugar. Onion absorbs moisture easily. – Maintain storage temperature 45-55°F.
– Do not wrap onions in plastic or keep them in plastic bags. Due to this, if air does not circulate properly, the shelf life of onion will reduce.
– Onion should be hard and dry when touched. Should be free from brown or black fungus and no germination should be visible.
