Where can I complain?
If you or your child is bitten by a neighbor’s dog, you can complain about it and the dog’s owner may even be sent to jail. It has been seen many times that dog owners do not accept their mistake and instead start threatening them, in such a situation, first of all you should complain about it in the nearest police station, apart from this you can also complain in the Municipal Corporation.
Under Section 289 of the IPC, if a pet causes harm to anyone, the owner will be held responsible. Under this, there is a provision of fine and jail up to 6 months. If death occurs due to dog bite, the punishment and fine may be increased further.
Important decision of High Court
Apart from this, the law is also very strict regarding the cases of stray dog bites, the court has given many such decisions in which fine has been imposed on the government or the dog owners. A few months ago, the Punjab and Haryana High Court said in its decision that if a dog bites, the government will have to pay compensation according to each tooth. The High Court said that a compensation of Rs 10,000 will have to be paid for the mark of a dog’s tooth. It will be the responsibility of the states.
