Manipur Drone Attack: Amid rising violence and unrest in Manipur, the government has ordered the closure of schools in the state on September 7. The Directorate of Education issued an order on Friday (September 6, 2024) stating that all government, private and central schools will remain closed to ensure the safety of students and teachers. The decision comes at a time when Manipur is grappling with heightened tensions following recent drone and gun attacks.

Bomb fell in former CM’s residential complex

Suspected militants fired two rockets in Manipur’s Bishnupur district on Friday, killing one person and injuring five others. An atmosphere of tension prevails in the Imphal valley region after a series of high-tech attacks in the last few days.

The first rocket attack took place at Tronglaobi in Bishnupur district at around 4:30 am on Friday, damaging two buildings. The second rocket then hit the residential complex of former chief minister Mairembam Koireng in Moirang town at around 3 am, killing an elderly man and injuring five others, including a 13-year-old girl. The victim’s family was preparing for a religious ritual when the attack took place. The injured have been admitted to hospital.

All markets in border areas have been closed

According to a report by news agency PTI, the official said that the unguided rocket missiles were locally made and were fired from the Thangjing hills in Churachandpur district towards the lower Moirang town. He said that after the two attacks in a span of about 10 hours, all markets and business establishments were closed in Moirang town, the rest of Bishnupur district and border areas of the surrounding districts of the state.
