Recently, UGC had given permission to universities to take admission twice a year like foreign universities. After which some other institutions including Delhi University of the capital Delhi have decided to adopt it. Now students will be able to apply twice a year for admission in higher education institutions.
Delhi University Vice Chancellor Yogesh Singh says that in view of some obstacles, the university has decided to implement the twice a year admission system with a pilot project in some courses from the next academic session. He said that this is a good initiative by UGC in the interest of students. But it will take time to implement it completely. In fact, more infrastructure will be needed to make room for the increasing number of students.
The Vice Chancellor said that admissions for the academic session 2024-25 have already started. Therefore, this system will not be implemented from this year. Initially, it will be adopted as a pilot project for some courses. Then later a decision will be taken for other programs.
Other universities including Jamia Millia Islamia are also considering it
While Jamia Millia Islamia is awaiting approval from the statutory bodies to implement this system. Jamia’s Acting Vice Chancellor Mohammad Shakeel has said that if the necessary approval is received, the institute can adopt this option for PhD admission. The VC said that this matter will be placed in the upcoming Executive Council meeting.
Also, instructions will be received from all the members of the council on how to proceed on the announcement made by UGC regarding admission twice a year.
