It is mainly found in paddy fields in winter. In Assam it is called Shamuk. It is sold at the price of Rs 80 to 100 per kg. People of tribal community of Assam like it very much. People of Rabha, Karbi and Bodo communities also like it very much.

According to a report on the website WebMD, snails are an excellent non-veg source of iron, calcium, vitamin A and many other minerals. Iron fulfills the deficiency of blood i.e. hemoglobin in our body. Calcium makes our bones strong, while Vitamin A strengthens our immune system. Overall, those who consume snails can feel fit and young at the age of 70.

According to a report, 100 grams of snail meat contains 16.5 grams of protein and only two grams of carbohydrate. Along with this, good cholesterol is found in abundance in it. How to cook snails with lentils
In Assam, the custom of cooking snails with black lentils is old. For this, first of all clean the black lentils properly. After this, clean the snail and boil it. Add some salt to black lentils and cook it. After some time, foam will start coming out from the lentils. Separate the chaff. Then cook the lentils completely and separate them. Now in a frying pan, mix snails and lentils with mustard oil, onion, coriander, curry leaves, chilli powder etc. and fry them. After this, by adding some green coriander you can enjoy excellent lentils and snails.
